5 Tips and Tricks to Booking Private Jet Charters

Comfort, convenience, and privacy are just three of the reasons more people are opting for private jet charters. If you’ve never traveled this way, you likely have questions about how to book a charter jet and how to save money flying privately instead of commercially. We’ve compiled five tips for booking private jet charters that can help you join this growing trend.

Top Tips for Booking a Charter Jet

There is mixed information online regarding how to save money by flying on a private jet and how to find charter jet deals. What many of these sources fail to express is that charter jets aren’t an option if you are looking to save on your travel needs. Private jets are a resource for people willing to pay for the luxury and comfort not afforded by commercial air travel.

For example, even if you buy a first-class seat on a commercial flight, you are still bound to the airline’s schedule. Meanwhile, by booking a charter jet, you can avoid waiting and fly on your schedule. Flying privately comes with the privilege of privacy, comfort, and flexibility. These luxuries are directly related to what you’re willing to pay for, but they can all be extremely rewarding. The following tips and tricks can help you get the private charter jet experience you seek.

1. Choose Wisely

Not all charter companies are the same, and it is a good idea to do some research before choosing a company. A good practice is to call a handful of charter operators and spend some time speaking with a charter representative. Ask them about:

  • Their aircraft maintenance
  • Their pilots’ qualifications
  • Their safety rating
  • Aircraft on their fleet

A reliable company will ensure its staff is able to answer questions about the business accurately and has knowledge about the industry in general. Inexperienced or unreliable companies may be more concerned with getting clients to choose them rather than providing top-tier services.

Choosing wisely doesn’t always mean choosing the cheapest option. Charter jet deals are meant to be exclusive and, as with most things, if you want high-quality service, you can expect to pay for it.

2. Educate Yourself

woman eating a meal on a private jet

A common mistake novice air charter clients make is not familiarizing themselves with the aircraft. It’s beneficial to find out the specifications of different aircraft, including how spacious they are, what amenities are on board, and what the aircraft looks like.

If saving money is your primary goal, you may have to sacrifice in other areas, such as the charter jet’s space or your time flexibility. But if you want to take advantage of the experience of flying on a charter jet, it’s a good idea to do your research and have a clear idea of what you want and need.

3. Pick the Right Airport

The airport from which you fly can end up saving you a fair amount of money. Unlike with commercial flights, booking a charter jet offers flexibility regarding where you fly from and to. Most major cities have a main airport as well as one or two smaller airports and flying out of a smaller airport could be more cost-effective.

For example, flying out of San Francisco International Airport (SFO) or Oakland International Airport (OAK) may cost more than flying out of Hayward Executive Airport (HWD). The smaller airports may even be closer to your departure city or destination, which means you do not need to worry about leaving early to beat traffic or deal with major crowds.

It’s a good idea to ask your charter professional for their opinion on your departure or arrival airport. They will be able to provide options that may end up costing less while also being more convenient for you.

4. Book a One-Way Trip

Depending on the reason for your trip, you may decide to book a round trip if you plan to spend one or two nights at your destination. However, if you plan an extended stay, it will likely be most cost-efficient to book a one-way private jet flight instead.

A round trip requires the charter jet and its crew to remain grounded until you’re ready to fly again, and the wait can add up to a hefty additional sum. Staff salaries, ramp fees, and loss of revenue from declining other flights mean you may be the one making up the difference.

If you choose an experienced air charter company, your broker should be able to find you one-way deals or other private jet flights to help accommodate your needs.

know the truth about empty leg flights

5. Know the Truth About “Empty-Leg” Flights

There is a lot of misinformation regarding “empty-leg” flights, which are flights that are empty for one leg of the trip. The aircraft will fly to a location to either pick up or drop off passengers, and the return or outgoing flight will be empty, with no passengers. Since these flights are sometimes necessary to reposition the aircraft for the next trip, some private jet charter companies offer access to empty-leg flights as a low-cost alternative to private jet charters.

Aside from the affordability, top-tier treatment is another benefit of empty-leg flights. For a fraction of the cost, you can experience the same level of luxury and convenience as you would if you booked a charter jet of your very own. Long security lines, cramped seating, and the distractions that come with commercial flights are things of the past as well, allowing you to enjoy the comfort of a private plane at a fantastic price.

If you’re in need of a one-way flight, consider taking advantage of the incredible deal provided by empty-leg flights.

How COVID-19 Affects Private Travel

As COVID-19 continues to keep the world clutched in lockdown — halting travel plans and decimating commercial airline operations — private jets and their crews are in a position to weather the turbulence in ways others cannot.

Consider how private aircraft can accommodate individualized safety and health measures, provide tailored services, and generally respond quicker yet more cautiously to day-by-day travel changes triggered by COVID-19.

However, does all this truly answer if it’s safer to fly private during pandemics?

In this guide, we’ll outline the current state of air travel during COVID-19, comparing the regulatory statutes, health parameters, and general peace of mind offered to travelers considering private flights — plus what passengers should and shouldn’t expect on a chartered jet during these uncertain times.

COVID-19’s Effect on the Airline Industry

To understand private jet travel’s unique position during global health crises, we must first consider COVID-19’s effects on the wider airline industry.

The one-two punch of border closings and commercial trip cancellations — both domestic and international — has sent carriers reeling. The effects of COVID-19 on today’s major airlines cannot be understated. According to recent airline industry data:

  • The global airline industry stands to lose over $250 billion in revenue in 2020, calculated by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
  • The ongoing U.S.-Europe travel ban, as well as worldwide restrictions to and from Asia-Pacific, have delivered particularly crippling blows. According to the IATA’s March industry survey statements, passenger revenue for European destinations has declined by $76 billion, surpassed only by the revenue lost among Asia-Pacific passenger flights, at $88 billion.
  • The number of flights departing from U.S. airports has been halved, with 58% fewer scheduled flights compared to April 2019, as reported by the OAG Aviation Worldwide.
  • Worldwide flight-reduction trends mirror — and in many cases outweigh — the United States for the same period. The United Kingdom and Germany have seen flight reductions decrease by 92.5% and 92%, respectively, while Australia has cut flights by 84.6%, Japan by 40.1%, the United Arab Emirates by 78.2%, South Korea by 60.4%, and Hong Kong by 94.2%.
  • Data combined, industry watchdogs predict an $880-billion hit to the global airline industry and a 64% reduction in total scheduled flights globally between 2019 and 2020 — a figure pushing airline industry representatives to pitch government intervention for financial relief.

Coronavirus and Private Jet Travel Versus Commercial Travel

The private jet and traditional airline industries alike have been impacted significantly by COVID-19. However, the adaptability, attention-to-detail, and level of accommodation private aircraft provide in stressful times of travel is vastly different compared to the majority of its commercial cousins.

In many ways, COVID-19 reveals and reinforces these key differences in the operating nature of both modes of transportation.

Commercial Aircraft Flight Capacities and Schedules

Commercial airline operations faced an unprecedented situation when the World Health Organization (WHO) officially declared COVID-19 a global pandemic in March 2020.

In an effort to stop the spread of COVID-19, as well as respond to rapidly changing border closings and country-by-country travel restrictions, many carriers liaised 24/7 with governments and agencies worldwide to implement appropriate containment responses. Early efforts culminated in curbing flights to and from COVID-19 case hotspots but quickly escalated into limiting routes en masse.

These actions have been the responsible choice — and in some cases, a regulatory necessity. However, they’ve drastically altered the average passenger’s ability to travel via regular commercial airlines and have reduced standard air travel for the foreseeable future:

  • Drastically cut flights: In the United States, major carriers, like American Airlines, United, Southwest, and Delta, began rolling back flight schedules beginning in early March. Due to the ongoing EU travel ban, these airlines have completely discontinued service to European nations, including now the United Kingdom. Internationally, the same flight rollback trend continues, with carriers like Japan Airlines, Air France KLM, Norwegian Air Shuttle, Lufthansa, IAG, and more discontinuing up to 90% of domestic and international routes indefinitely.
  • Changing airline policies: Airline companies continue to deploy health and safety best practices following health experts’ recommendations. Health-related policy changes have included removing high-touch objects such as in-flight magazines and food menus, requiring passengers to wear masks, adding hand sanitizer stations in terminals, and increasing the frequency and rigorousness of plane disinfecting.
  • Ongoing scheduling alterations: With governments encouraging its populations to suspend all “non-essential” travel, many airlines have announced they will continue to cut flights, even past the summer season, possibly extending through 2020’s fourth quarter.
  • Employee layoffs, airliner bankruptcy: Without government intervention, airline industry representatives forecast between 60% and 70% of airline employees will lose their jobs due to the economic impact of COVID-19. That translates into roughly two million unemployed Americans currently working for major airlines and airports.

Private and Business Flight Travel and Schedules

In contrast, the charter jet industry saw a near-immediate surge in bookings at the onset of WHO’s pandemic announcement in March. The private and business flight industry has seen trends like:

  • Early increases in long-distance travel bookings: In the week following the World Health Organization’s official declaration of COVID-19 as a pandemic, demand for private jets increased by over 100%, compared to the same period from the previous year.
  • Sustained uptick in intercontinental demand departing European hotspots: The U.S.’ European travel ban alone is responsible for over 500 canceled cross-Atlantic flights in April 2020. Booking a private jet offers an immediate solution for travelers looking to return to their U.S. home and quickly leave emerging European hotspots — sometimes arranging outbound flights in as little as a few hours.
  • Dip down to regular demand: February and March 2020 data revealed higher bookings for private jets, particularly in regions with surging COVID-19 cases, such as China, in late February. These booking upticks, on average, tend to last between two to four weeks before stabilizing to comparable booking levels from the same time period in 2019.
  • Some geographic discrepancy: The demand for private aircraft remains up by 46% in the Middle East, according to the latest industry reports. Conversely, private jet trips from areas like Italy are down over a quarter — about 33% — from last year’s rates, due primarily to the country’s strict and unilateral lockdown.

Health Advantages of Flying Private

There are several health advantages to flying in a private aircraft over a crowded commercial vehicle, particularly during these times. The most considerable advantages include:

1. Fewer Human Touch Points

The average commercial airline passenger will experience nearly 700 exposure-prone touch points during their journey on a traditional airplane. Those risk-prone touchpoints include handrails, elevator buttons, escalators, ticketing kiosks, terminal and plane seating, shared plane armrests, and restroom doors, to name a handful. The figure also accounts for the much higher risk for interpersonal exposure to germs and viruses within enclosed, tightly packed aircraft.

Flying via a private aircraft minimizes these human touchpoints. Private jets carry far fewer passengers and airline attendants, protecting their health as well. What’s more, the end-to-end travel procedure when flying on a chartered aircraft creates ideal sanitary conditions, from a private boarding process in a separate terminal — or better yet, planeside valet parking — to touch point-minimized disembarking and baggage collection.

2. Lower Overall Infection Exposure

Industry analyses reveal that flying on a private aircraft reduces coronavirus exposure — and other exposure to viruses and germs — by up to 30 times compared to flying on regular commercial aircraft.

This calculation accounts for reduced person-to-person interactions, as well as the fact that private flights operate out of dedicated aviation terminals, not mass transit centers or hive-like terminals. This privacy affords greater distance from germs when traveling, providing immune-system protection as well as peace of mind during these stressful times.

3. A Clean, Dedicated Aircraft

Private jets and aircraft see far lower usage rates than commercial vehicles. On average, a privately booked jet will fly between 20 and 80 hours per month. Alternatively, average commercial aircraft experience upwards of 200 to 250 travel hours per month, sometimes more.

Lower aircraft-usage rates are a critical way to minimize aircraft contamination and passenger exposure. This fact alone makes private aircraft a safer bet for traveling during health crises.

Plus, many aircraft brokers, owners, and operators are opting for medical-grade jet cleaning products to use across an already rigorous, industry-leading aircraft cleaning system. Private aircraft are thoroughly cleaned after each booking. Some operators may even disclose the exact cleaning products, disinfectants, and sanitizers used aboard aircraft when prompted by clients.

4. Personalized Service

Private aircraft and their crew members can accommodate individualized health situations in ways commercial airlines simply can’t. Passengers can submit travel requests, including necessary medical accommodations, during their booking, knowing attendants will be briefed and prepared the moment they step into the jet.

Travelers can expect more personalized care and attention across any of the following health circumstances:

  • Passengers with oxygen tanks, respiratory devices, or any other breathing aids.
  • Passengers requiring necessary medical equipment on-board with them at all times.
  • Immune-compromised individuals with pre-existing conditions.
  • Older passengers as well as other most-at-risk populations.

By offering more tailored amenities, services, and greater safety precautions, private flights curate a safer environment for anyone worried about the health and safety of their families, colleagues, business associates, and more.

5. “Lifeline” Routes

Chartered jets may still be able to travel to and from countries in lockdown — even when commercial airlines cannot.

To do so, carriers submit flight plans to relevant airport authorities, as well as a detailed safety and travel needs assessment. Airport authorities often work in tangent with appointed health experts and government agencies to review the flight plan before approving it with a list of requirements. The crew members are given a full briefing on the route, including its safety requirements, passenger needs, and levels of risk entering a particular hotspot. Crew members are typically also given a “no overnight” mandate, remaining inside the jet while the vehicle is grounded.

During emergencies, these “lifeline” routes — as they’re often called in the industry — may be the only form of emergency transportation in or out of a lockdown zone. Today, the private aviation industry services significantly more of these lifeline airport routes compared to those accessible by major carriers. These lifeline routes are also responsible for vital activities, like transporting first responders, medical equipment, and critical resources into emergency zones, as well as doubling as air ambulances in remote areas.

Conversely, the availability, flexibility, and responsiveness of chartered jets mean passengers can plan routes to avoid hotspots altogether and bypass layovers in concerning airports or regions as travel rules change by the day, if not the hour.

How Private Flights Are Combating Coronavirus

Chartered aircraft and their crew members take extreme precautions to keep passengers safe and comfortable. In many ways, flying via a private jet provides inherent health advantages over traditional flights, with private jet operators in a prime position to combat the traveler-based spread of COVID-19. Here are some of the ways private flights are combating the spread of COVID-19:

1. Outstanding Aircraft Sanitation

In addition to maintaining rigorous cleaning schedules after each chartered usage, private jets and carriers are following the Center for Disease Control’s (CDC) sanitation guidelines surrounding COVID-19.

This aircraft sanitation best-practices include but aren’t limited to:

  • Medical-grade disinfectants applied to high-touch aircraft areas (armrests, door handles, etc.) and all surfaces.
  • Electrostatic spray equipment and cleaning methods.
  • Contactless waste disposal.
  • Single-use deployments of blankets, pillows, catering equipment, and other in-flight amenities.
  • Additional sanitation strategies, within and exceeding CDC recommendations.

Plus, crew members assigned to private jets are not under the same time constraints as commercial aircraft crew. This translates to slower, more methodical jet cleanings without the pressure to rush and maintain a busy back-to-back aircraft cleaning schedule.

2. Expert Crew Members

Chartered flight crews are considered some of the best in the field, often with years of experience working for traditional airlines as well as corporate or business charters. This resume assures the utmost professionalism, knowledge, and industry acumen.

In times like these, extra steps are taken to ensure crew health and safety. A healthy, happy crew is a critical line of defense in safe air travel. All jet crew members are briefed on the latest protocols and safety parameters prior to departure, understanding route risks. They are prepared to operate the safest, swiftest transportation to bring you home safe.

In addition to onboard staff, chartered aircraft are serviced from smaller, dedicated air terminals with its own fixed-base operator (FBO) crews, fuelers, cleaners, and trusted third-party partner vendors, minimizing exposure touch points and further bolstering private jet travel’s level of expertise.

3. Unparalleled Aircraft Options

Flying with traditional airliners subjects you to whatever aircraft that company currently operates. You have virtually no say in the matter — unless you strategically travel with companies flying only specific aircraft models, and only for specific routes.

Chartered jets allow the option to select the exact size and type of aircraft you desire. You call the shots, booking the size and subsequent model fitting your number of passengers, amenities, route length, and more.

  • Light: Light chartered jets are ideal for short trips lasting up to four hours, or up to 2,000 miles. Light jets comfortably seat five to seven passengers and contain amenities like a private lavatory, plush cushioned seats far larger than commercial seating, electronic plug-ins, and a refreshment station.
  • Midsize: Midsize chartered aircraft service transcontinental trips with up to ten passengers. Ideal midsize routes range between 2,000 and 3,000 miles and contain a more spacious cabin, perfect to set up as an in-flight office to accomplish business comfortably while you travel.
  • Super-midsize: Super-midsize jets are designed for private intercontinental travel. Seating up to ten passengers, guests on super-midsize aircraft enjoy a larger refreshment station, cabin work areas, and entertainment stations, optional lie-in sleeping furniture as well as in-flight baggage access.
  • Heavy/large: Heavy or large private charters service long intercontinental trips as well as large passenger parties with up to 20 guests. With route ranges up to 7,5000 miles, a heavy/large private jet is your ticket around the world in style — literally. The size of this aircraft allows for a multi-room cabin, allowing you to separate it into dedicated conference rooms and workstations as well as a full-service cabin for relaxing and entertainment. Heavy/large private jets also tend to come serviced by a flight attendant as well as a full refreshment center, meal service, and optional drink/bar station.

4. Continual Situation Analysis and Adaptation

Private aircraft brokers and operators are in a unique position to monitor and respond — almost immediately — to COVID-19-caused travel changes.

The private charter industry is capable of in-the-moment adaptations and action, unlike massive airline companies that are operating under layers of organizational hierarchy and contingent on airport restrictions, border closures, top-down corporate scheduling, hordes of customer requests, and other red tape and restrictions. Larger commercial airliners simply cannot provide the same immediate and individualized response to emergencies and customer requests, both in the moment and pre- and post-flight.

Charter aircraft still must abide by Federal Aviation Administration regulations, including submitting flight plans and coordinating with air traffic control. However, many operators can receive a booking, then submit and execute a client’s travel plan in less than two hours, depending on the route. Plus, private carriers maintain connections with dedicated airports, private terminals, and their servicing FBOs, creating a tight-knit network capable of smoothly coordinating turn-key solutions for passengers, even in the most stressful circumstances.

Other Benefits of Traveling via Charter Jet

Few forms of transportation offer the amenities and level of attention a charter jet does. These are some of the benefits of flying in a private aircraft, regardless of the state of the world, where you’re traveling to, or who you’re traveling with:

  • Around-the-clock availability: Need to arrive at your destination before dawn? Have a sudden change in plans that means you must board a few hours early? Charter jet bookings work on your schedule — not the other way around. This tailored scheduling offers unparalleled convenience that other modes of transportation can’t match.
  • Comfort: From plush, ultra-comfortable lounge chairs, sofas, and reclining lie-in sleepers, to refreshment carts and snack stations, the comfort of traveling via a private jet is unparalleled, even compared to a luxury first-class commercial ticket.
  • Privacy: Make important business calls, manage meetings, tackle critical projects, and cut deals in a comfortable, reliable, and private setting — minus the crying baby three rows down. This spatial privacy also lends safety during health emergencies such as COVID-19.
  • Expediency: No long routes, no layovers, and no waiting in line. Booking a private aircraft ensures you get from point A to point B as quickly as possible.

Latitude 33 Accepts First Customer Aircraft Fueled With Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)

Latitude 33 Aviation accepts challenger 350 with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF)

CHALLENGER 350 FUELED WITH SUSTAINABLE AVIATION FUEL (SAF)

Latitude 33 Aviation is proud to announce the acceptance of the first Bombardier customer aircraft to be delivered with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). This award-winning 2019 Challenger 350 will also be the first on Latitude 33 Aviation’s fleet to be based in Seattle, Washington. The Challenger 350 is already one of the most fuel-efficient business aircraft in the world with its redesigned canted winglets that reduce drag and fuel burn, while the engines deliver increased thrust. Available for charter, this factory-new aircraft is leading the way towards a sustainable future for business aviation by mainstreaming the use of an alternative to traditional jet fuel.

THE BENEFITS OF SUSTAINABLE AVIATION FUEL (SAF)

What is Sustainable Aviation Fuel?

Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is an alternative to traditional jet fuel. SAF is made by blending conventional kerosene with renewable hydrocarbon. Because it is certified as “Jet-A1” fuel, no modifications are required for the aircraft to use SAF.

Environmental Benefits

The use of SAF has been shown to provide great environmental benefits. Sustainable aviation fuel is nearly carbon-neutral over its life cycle because the burning fuel emits an equivalent amount of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere as do plants during the growth of biomass. SAF also contains fewer impurities, which results in a greater reduction of particulate matter emissions.

SAF can be produced from municipal waste that would otherwise be left to decompose in landfill sites. This avoids the use of petroleum and instead reuses the waste to power additional flights.

Economic & Social Benefits

SAF is mainly produced from feedstocks and therefore can be spread worldwide across several different feedstocks that have large amounts of unviable land for food crops. This can simultaneously reduce the exposure to the fuel cost volatility that comes with having a single energy source and introduce a new industry such as sustainable aviation fuel production to developing nations.

HOW TO GET THERE – PRIVATE JET CHARTER TO HAWAII

Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (PHNL) – This airport located in Honolulu, Oahu, is the principal aviation getaway of the city. As one of the world’s largest and busiest airports, PHNL serves more than 20 million visitors each year and has four active runways, including the 12,000-foot runway, which was the world’s first major runway built entirely offshore. This airport is formerly known as Honolulu International Airport and is famously known for its beautiful landscape consisting of native trees and flowers to the Hawaiian Islands – a warm welcome for visitors taking a private jet charter to Hawaii.

Kahului Airport (PHOG) – Kahului Airport is a regional airport in the state of Hawaii and the primary airport on the island of Maui. The majority of flights into Kahului Airport originate from Honolulu at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (PHNL) making the Honolulu-Kahului corridor one of the heaviest trafficked air routes in the United States.

Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport at Keahole (PHKO) – Kona International Airport is the primary airport located on the west side of the island of Hawaii. It serves transpacific and inter-island flights. Take a private jet charter directly into the Big Island to see active volcanoes, famous orchids, and its scenic coastline.

Lihue Airport (PHLI) – Lihue Airport is the primary airport located on the southeast coast of the island of Kauai. A true tropical getaway for visitors, Lihue Airport is mostly outdoors and the check-in is completely outside. As part of the West Coast Safari, Kauai’s Lihue Airport is where your Challenger 605, Challenger 350, or Challenger 300 will land into.

HONOLULU

This cosmopolitan capital city of Hawaii will delight you with sunny weather, friendly locals, and plenty to do. Honolulu stretches from Pearl Harbor to Makapuu Point, including the world-famous Waikiki Beach. Between historic landmarks, world-class shopping, and lavish fine-dining, Honolulu will quickly become a city you will seek a private jet charter to.

Places To Stay

Honolulu is home to many breathtaking beachfront hotels and resorts. Stay in well-known locations like the Four Seasons Resort Oahu at Ko Olina or The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Waikiki Beach. If you’re venturing for a more exclusive and private spot to stay, Halekulani on the west end of Waikiki is the perfect remote location resting on five acres of beachfront property. Disney’s family-friendly luxury resort and spa, Aulani, offers activities for everyone in the family. No matter who you’re traveling with or your reason for traveling, Honolulu has the perfect location for you to stay.

Things To Do

It’s no surprise that there are an endless amount of outdoor activities in Hawaii with its perfect weather and beautiful beaches. Try snorkeling in Hanauma Bay or ocean sports like stand-up paddle boarding or bodysurfing at Waikiki, Ala Moana Beach Park, and Sandy’s. Take the whole family to the Waikiki Aquarium or the Honolulu Zoo to see 42 acres of lush grounds bursting with fragrant and colorful indigenous plants and flowers along with many animal species native to tropical climates. Get active and hike the iconic former volcano, Diamond Head crater on the eastern side of Waikiki.

If you would like to stay local to the city of Honolulu, there are many opportunities like Honolulu’s Chinatown, which offers an immersive cultural experience. Spend the day shopping at the Ala Moana Center – the largest open-air shopping mall in the world. For high-end shopping, the Luxury Row shopping center on Kalakaua Avenue has brand-name stores like Chanel, Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, and Bottega Veneta. The Honolulu Museum of Art in downtown Honolulu houses contemporary exhibits and films. Annual festivals and outdoor sporting events flourish in this tropical playground, with wintertime surfing tournaments, pro football and golf competitions, and even the Honolulu Festival each March.

MAUI

As part of the Hawaiian archipelago, Maui is the second-largest of the islands and features 30 miles of beaches. Nicknamed “The Valley Isle” because central Maui rests between two mountains, this lush paradise boasts everything you are seeking in a tropical getaway. The island has a reputation for its resorts and master-planned communities, along with bountiful sunshine and fragrant breezes. The weather throughout the year remains nice with seasonable changes expected, but usually not varying more than 20 or so degrees between summer and winter.

Where To Stay

Maui is home to Wailea, Hawaii’s most exclusive and luxurious resort community. Resorts within this community include Waldorf Astoria, Marriott, Four Seasons, and Hotel Wailea. Waldorf Astoria is the most famous place to play in pools on the island, where a river connects nine spectacular and unique swimming pools across the property. Marriott and Four Seasons are family-friendly resorts with beautiful oceanfront scenery and plenty of activities. Hotel Wailea is an adults-only five-star exclusive oasis and getaway with 180-degree unobstructed ocean views. Along the North Shore of Maui, you will find Kapalua Resort, a 22,000-acre region home to signature events throughout the year, real estate offerings, and award-winning dining and shopping. Among the luxury hotel offerings nestled in Kapalua Bay are Montage and The Ritz-Carlton. With white-sand beaches, nature preserves, breathtaking hiking trails, championship golf, and magnificent dining, the Kapalua Resort community will enchant you.

What To Do

Maui is full of outdoor adventures. Take a helicopter tour through the Hawaiian skies and view the tops of waterfalls and the variety of sand colors on Maui’s famous black, red, and white sand beaches. Explore the abundant underwater life of over 250 species of tropical fish while snorkeling or diving in Molokini off of Maui’s southwestern coast. Above land, take a drive along the famous scenic highway on the road to Hana. The drive takes you through the epic eastern side of the island with thundering waterfalls cascading through lush rainforest, roadside pineapple stands, and hairpin turns atop seaside cliffs. Just beyond the charming town of Hana, you will find the Haleakala National Park – a beautiful place to hike.

Complement your private jet charter to Hawaii and book a private boat tour to view the mesmerizing humpback whales stop in the warm waters to breed, calve, and nurse their young in the premier destination of the Luau Channel. Visit the historic town of Lahaina in West Maui. Lahaina has evolved into a modern city with excellent nightlife, oceanfront dining, and shopping. Attend a famous Hawaiian luau at The Royal Lahaina resort, one of the most popular and longest-running luaus on the island.

Latitude 33 Aviation Receives Friendly Flyer Award

June 26, 2019 – The Los Angeles World Airports are committed to minimizing noise impact on the neighboring communities with aircraft operating at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Van Nuys Airport (VNY). Since 1959, LAWA has developed and implemented noise abatement programs, established partnership-based solutions, and worked with stakeholders in a cooperative and collaborative manner.

Latitude 33 Aviation manages aircraft, including a 2018 Citation Latitude, at Van Nuys airport and frequently performs flights into and out of the airport. The private jet charter, executive jet management, and aircraft sales and acquisitions company headquartered at McClellan-Palomar Airport in Southern California, received the Friendly Flyer Award for achieving outstanding compliance with the Van Nuys Airport’s Fly Friendly Program for the fifth consecutive year.

In 2012, the “Friendly Flyer” Award program was created to recognize jet operators and efforts being made to achieve the highest level of compliance with mandatory noise regulations and voluntary noise abatement programs at Van Nuys Airport. Latitude 33 Aviation was among 34 other companies recognized in the 7th annual Van Nuys Airport Friendly Flyer Awards ceremony. A luncheon ceremony was held at the Airtel Plaza Hotel to recognize the winners of the prestigious award.

The Friendly Flyer Award is presented annually to operators who meet or exceed the following criteria:

    • Noise Abatement and Curfew Regulation
    • Non-Additional Rule

Benefits of Flying Private vs. First Class

When planning to travel by air, there is an ever-growing diversity of choice for flight services. However, commercial airlines are focused on increasing their profits by packing more passengers into each aircraft resulting in deteriorating passenger experiences. Whether you are traveling for business or pleasure, choosing to charter a private jet instead of flying first class or business class on a commercial plane offers significant advantages.

FLYING PRIVATE – TRAVEL ON YOUR OWN TIME

Convenience and time savings are benefits that are often considered priceless in our modern, busy world, and flying private offers both in spades. Whether you are running late or early simply call ahead and notify the crew. When flying on a private aircraft, your flight leaves when you are ready. Easily avoid the hassles of busy airports with a private charter and set your own schedule instead of being required to work around the schedule of a commercial airliner. As the number of budget commercial carriers increases, if your destination is not a hub then the choices are limited and restrictive. The overall travel time with a private jet service is significantly lower than commercial airline travel time. You will not need to navigate through large airport complexes or wait in long lines – instead, enjoy planeside valet parking and step aboard as soon as you arrive.

Flying privately makes the most of your valuable time by giving you the privacy and convenience to hold business meetings, work efficiently, or relax before your destination. Private jet charter operators are able to fly into smaller airports that will be closer to your destination. With over 5,000 smaller airports available to you when you fly on private aircraft (approximately 10 times as many airports than are available by commercial airline service), the time saved will quickly add up. Flexibility increases with private charter services, as well, because itinerary changes can be made last minute or even mid-flight in some cases, should an urgent need arise. One-way flights further boost the time savings by offering quick options for short-notice meetings or spontaneous getaways.

CLASS & COMFORT

Feeling comfortable when traveling is of high priority and it is also what frequently motivates the decision to fly first class or business class. However, private jet services are substantially more customizable to perfectly suit an individual’s comfort and preferences. For instance, by choosing the type, size, and onboard amenities of your jet, you are able to tailor your experience to the exact needs you and your passengers have. When you arrive at one of the private fixed-base operators, you will find private lounges offering complimentary refreshments and toiletries where you can rest and freshen up. The Private Suite at LAX is a luxurious and popular example! The seating arrangement within most private jets more closely resembles a high-end living room, and you are free to move around from one seat to another throughout your flight. You can count on superior service from start to finish, with crew focusing exclusively on the needs of you and your guests.

PERSONALIZED JUST FOR YOU

Private jet charter travel offers a bespoke travel experience, with the possibilities of requesting such personalized amenities like catering, entertainment media, reading publications, even specific designer fragrances. If you are celebrating a special occasion, you can coordinate with the operator ahead of time to have the plane decorated according to your theme. Fill the plane with balloons or other décor to start your vacation off in the most memorable way. Concierge companies that work directly with private charter flights are available to manage every detail of your in-flight celebration for you. Receive made-to-order catering or special food choices delivered to you ahead of time to enjoy while on your flight, and relish in the privacy of traveling only with whom you are comfortable. On a private flight, you will have more control over the overall experience of “getting there”, occasionally even at a rate per person comparable to flying first class commercially.

A NEW LEVEL OF PRIVACY

Peace of mind is another invaluable perk of flying private. On your customized chartered jet trip, you can feel free to continue confidential business meetings, hold personal conversations, and entirely stay out of the public eye while you travel. Utilizing the in-flight Wi-Fi, you are able to host video conferences from inside the plane with people back at the office or even hold a presentation with laptop slides or whiteboards and presentation decks. There are no limits to productivity when you fly privately, as there would be on a commercial flight. The benefit for companies to be able to continue their work and enhance their productivity while en route to the destination will far outweigh the potential additional cost. There will not be any lost luggage or lengthy security check procedures and lines to endure, drastically reducing both wasted time and stress. A private jet charter trip also has few liquid restrictions or limitations and you are welcome to travel on your terms.

CHOOSE LUXURY

The pace of modern life requires airplane travel, sometimes involving multiple flights in a single day, and so it is important to choose wisely. We want our lives to be enhanced by our experiences and the way we travel matters. Meeting business deadlines, spending more time at home with loved ones, and enjoying life with less overall stress are all benefits of choosing to fly privately instead of commercial. With considerable benefits, private jet charter services can help you truly enjoy your time spent in the air.

How to Buy a Private Jet

For anyone who travels significantly for business purposes, purchasing your own private jet has likely crossed your mind. The dream has perhaps materialized while mid-flight on a chartered jet, enjoying the serenity of a personalized experience and staff dedicated to your distinct needs. It is a great time to buy a jet, and the process of aircraft acquisition is much simpler than some may think. If you already spend at least 150-200 hours per year flying, then most aviation industry experts will encourage you to buy a private jet. Traveling often for pleasure or business meetings or taking advantage of the convenience of having a company aircraft are great reasons to support purchasing a private jet. The benefits of owning a private jet are many!

A BUSINESS INVESTMENT

Traveling on your own plane means your trips are faster, with less wait time overall, and your trips are much more efficient because you will be flying into smaller airports, closer to your desired destinations. Flying when you are ready to, instead of waiting on commercial schedules, equates to increased convenience and time savings. You will have complete privacy during flights on your own jet and be able to hold confidential meetings or presentations while maintaining productivity, all within the comfort of your own space, which can be designed and decorated to your specific preferences. A private jet means you can show your clients that you value their time, privacy, and comfort by providing them with first-rate travel arrangements. Employee retention is increased, as well; your employees will be happier with the comfort and efficiency of private flying.

FRACTIONAL OWNERSHIP

Before discussing what purchasing your own jet looks like, it is worth mentioning the alternate option of fractional ownership. Although the hourly rates are higher than owning your own aircraft, this choice may be a better option if you fly less than 150 hours annually since it provides you with many of the benefits of owning your own aircraft without requiring the upfront capital investment. Ownership is available based upon fractional amounts of the flight time the operator anticipates per year. So, your portion could be 1/16th of the annual flight time, about 50 hours, but that also means you are only allocated that specific amount of time in the aircraft per year. For that portion of ownership, the cost usually starts around $275,000, and also requires various fees to cover fuel, maintenance, insurance, crew salaries, and the cost of keeping the plane in a hangar.

WORKING WITH THE RIGHT TEAM

Purchasing a jet will begin with hiring an experienced aircraft broker to represent you. It is important to find a trusted aviation consultant or brokerage firm that understands aircraft, someone with a background as a pilot or an engineer. This person should also have business experience to most effectively assist with your purchase and associated negotiations. Your travel needs will best determine the type of aircraft you should purchase, and your broker will be a vital part of that decision, taking into account not only how many people you will usually be putting on each flight but also how far you plan on regularly traveling.

Once you enter into an agreement with an aircraft brokerage, they will begin seeking out the best private jet to suit your needs at the best price, while making sure the plane is safe and up-to-date on maintenance. An aircraft brokerage can also help to give you an idea of the costs involved, not only with the purchase, but also the upkeep and management of a private jet.

A company or individual that will be selling an aircraft will have it available on their website, as well as other aircraft sales platforms such as:

Your broker will know the market and begin immediately scouring the globe to find your best deal. You will need an aviation lawyer to work through the sale and all of its details, as well as ensure you are meeting FAA compliance regulations and tax requirements. A good aviation consultant or broker should already have an aviation lawyer, and perhaps also an aviation tax specialist and aircraft financing company, with whom they commonly work with to buy a private jet.

FINALIZING THE PROCESS

After a jet that fits your needs is located, the brokerage will execute a pre-buy review/inspection utilizing a highly-experienced aircraft engineer, which will include a test flight to ensure everything is functioning properly. The engineer will submit a report on their findings, along with the specifics of the maintenance that might be needed soon. Once you and the seller negotiate the final price, the sale can be finalized and you will be the proud owner of a private jet. The full buying process usually takes about 4-6 weeks. After your aircraft is purchased, it is recommended you hire an aircraft management company who can maintain, oversee, and protect your jet. Your selected aircraft management company will handle the maintenance, insurance, fuel, parts, and the hiring of a pilot and flight crew.

Overcoming Flying Anxiety

YOUR GUIDE TO OVERCOMING FLYING ANXIETY

Even though flying remains one of the safest forms of travel from a statistical standpoint, fear of flying is one of the most common phobias people have. Whether it’s because of fear of an accident, the claustrophobia associated with being in the airplane cabin, or the loss of control they feel, flying can be a big source of anxiety for travelers. For many people, their flying anxiety can begin days or even weeks before their flight, making them feel nervous and negatively impacting their daily lives.

However, if you have flying anxiety, the experience of flying for work or vacation doesn’t have to be stressful. There are many options for preventing and overcoming that anxiety before and during a flight. We have created the accompanying airplane anxiety guide to provide you with tips that can make your travels more calming and enjoyable. It lists some of the techniques that are most effective at helping nervous fliers cope with their anxiety.

Flying may produce anxiety in people in many ways. Some people are unnerved by the unfamiliar noises they experience during a flight, or the pain they feel due to air pressure changes. Other people don’t like confined spaces and the feeling that they can’t get out, which are only made worse by staying in a pressurized cabin for several hours. Many other people have misconceptions about how safe flying is and spend their flight in fear of an accident. No matter what causes it, anxiety can make flying uncomfortable and agonizing.

Fortunately, there are a number of strategies you can practice to help reduce your anxiety before you board the plane, as well as many steps you can take during a flight that can help you feel more at ease. One proven technique is to spend the weeks before your flight concentrating on your physical fitness, as that can have a major effect on your mental state. Whether you work out more, concentrate on meditation or yoga, or a combination, improving your physical condition can make a big difference in your mood while you fly.

While you’re in the air, you can try to concentrate on puzzles, movies or any other activity that will occupy your mind and help prevent you from focusing on your anxiety. Bringing items in your carry-on bag such as noise-canceling headphones, coloring books, a sleep mask or anything else that can take your mind off the flight is another sound strategy.

Still a little nervous about flying? Consider flying privately. You can cut out possible anxiety triggers such as long lines, delays, not-so-friendly passengers and missing luggage. The friendly, calm experience you enjoy when chartering a jet can help reduce flying anxiety. Latitude 33 Aviation is a premier private jet operator that can assist you with this option. Make yourself at home with your own private flight, enjoy catered meals, watch your favorite movies, and relax without worries. The team at Latitude 33 Aviation would be honored to make your flying experience extraordinary and is happy to accommodate special requests.

It is possible to have a comfortable, relaxing flight — even if you have flight anxiety. By being aware of what causes you to feel stressed during a flight and using some coping strategies before and during the flight, you can enjoy your flight much more and arrive at your destination feeling calm. Review the accompanying aerophobia guide to help you prepare for your next flight without stress or anxiety.

FLYING ANXIETY GUIDE

More than a quarter of Americans report feeling some kind of anxiety related to air travel. This guide goes into detail about some of the common causes of flight-related anxiety and how people can overcome it.

Reasons for Flying Anxiety

  • Turbulence
  • Mechanical noises
  • Pain caused by pressure changes
  • Misinformation about risks of flying
  • Personality factors
  • Recent stressful life events

How to Prepare for a Flight

  • Research the statistics. Knowing how many planes fly every day perfectly safely can help put your mind at ease before you board.
  • Get to know the plane. If possible, spend some time in the cabin of a plane before your trip and acquaint yourself with all the features.
  • Focus on your physical health. Your physical condition can have a significant impact on your mental state, so step up your exercise routine before your flight or start meditating to keep your mind clear and calm.
  • Make yourself comfortable. Download a favorite movie or create a playlist with your favorite music before your flight.
  • Dress for the flight. Loose, comfortable clothing will help you feel more at ease during the flight.
  • Avoid alcohol or caffeine. Certain substances can make your anxiety worse, so make sure you drink some soothing tea before your flight.

Tips to Overcome Anxiety

  • Stay busy during the flight. Keeping your mind and body occupied during the flight can help keep your mind off your anxiety.
  • Download an app. Apps are available to help you manage your anxiety through guided meditation, breathing exercises and other methods.
  • Try to sleep. If you can, try to use the flight as an opportunity to get some shuteye. You will miss most of the flight altogether and eliminate the opportunity to get nervous.
  • Shut out noise. Noise-canceling headphones or earplugs can block many of the sounds that create anxiety in nervous fliers.
  • Choose your seat carefully. Sitting closer to the front of the plane cuts down on the amount of turbulence you may feel during the flight.

Items That Reduce Anxiety

  • Headphones
  • iPod/music
  • Books
  • Movies
  • Video games
  • Aromatherapy oils
  • Sleep mask
  • Crafts
