Even though many native New Yorkers travel outside the city during Memorial Day Weekend, there are a number of reasons for travelers to head to New York City during this time. New York City pays tribute to the men and women that have served our country by hosting numerous events. Fleet Week is a week-long event where attendees can tour docked ships in Manhattan and Staten Island, meet men and women who are currently serving in the U.S. Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard, and watch military demonstrations. Take the family to the famous Brooklyn Memorial Day Parade that runs along 3rd Avenue toward Marine Avenue. This parade has been a tradition in the Bay Ridge neighborhood since 1867.
