Jet Factory Acceptance Program
Latitude 33 Aviation has a three-phase process created to guarantee clients are accurately represented throughout the entire jet acquisition process.

During the Pre-Delivery phase of the Jet Acquisition process, Latitude 33 Aviation sets up the RVSM application, completes the warranty documentation and post-delivery support.

Latitude 33 Aviation Challenger 350

During the Delivery Day phase, Latitude 33 Aviation’s representative is onsite for the On the Ground Aircraft Technical Inspection. During this inspection, the representative completes a comprehensive nose to tail inspection, looking for cosmetic, manufacturing or installation defects. During this phase, Latitude 33 Aviation’s representatives and pilots complete the In the Air Flight Test. The In the Air Flight Test is designed to evaluate handling qualities, test all systems, and validate performance parameters.

The final phase of the acquisition process is the Post Delivery Support. During this phase, Latitude 33 Aviation’s team works with the manufacturer to facilitate warranty claims and ensure they deliver on post-delivery factory remediation for outstanding issues found at delivery.

Friendly Flyer Awards 2018

July 11, 2018 – Los Angeles County is home to many domestic and international airports. Los Angeles International (LAX), Ontario International, John Wayne, Long Beach, Hollywood Burbank, and Van Nuys are the most commonly used airports in the county.

Latitude 33 Aviation manages aircraft based in cities throughout the U.S. and frequently performs flights into and out of Van Nuys airport. The private jet charter, executive jet management, and aircraft sales and acquisitions company headquartered at McClellan-Palomar Airport in Southern California, received the Friendly Flyer Award for achieving outstanding compliance with the Van Nuys Airport’s Fly Friendly Program for the fourth consecutive year.

Addressing the community’s concerns regarding jet aircraft noise in neighborhood areas, the Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) established the voluntary Fly Friendly/Quiet Departure Program (QDP) for jet aircraft. In 2012, the “Friendly Flyer” Award program was created to recognize jet operators and efforts being made to achieve the highest level of compliance with mandatory noise regulations and voluntary noise abatement programs at Van Nuys Airport.

Since then, LAWA has updated the target noise levels and expanded the list of aircraft types to address Van Nuys fleet variety and reduce target noise levels.

The Friendly Flyer Award is presented annually to operators who meet or exceed the following criteria:

  • At least 60 southbound jet departures
  • No violations of the following:
    • Noise Abatement and Curfew Regulation
    • Non-Additional Rule
    • Noisier Jet Phase-out
  • 99% or greater compliance with the No Early Turn and the Quiet Jet Departure Programs.

The City of Los Angeles and the 29th Congressional District recognized the four-time Friendly Flyer Award winner for its dedication and commitment to honor and preserve the needs of the community. Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners member Jeffery Daar stated, “We congratulate and thank each of our award recipients for their commitment to quiet flying practices, which reduces noise and enhances the quality of life in our neighboring communities.”

The Friendly Flyer program is regularly updated to expand the number of involved aircraft. Flora Margheritis, Van Nuys Airport manager, states the airport works in close collaboration with jet aircraft owners, operators, pilots, and airport tenants to achieve meaningful improvements.

Private Aircraft, Tax Cuts and Jobs Act

On December 22, 2017, the President of the United States signed The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Currently, the federal government imposes an excise tax on every commercial flight. Under this new legislation, the maintenance of a privately managed and operated plane would be exempt from this tax.

Below is the section of the bill which describes the tax breaks for aircraft owners:

“The proposal exempts certain payments related to the management of private aircraft from the excise taxes imposed on taxable transportation by air. Exempt payments are those amounts paid by an aircraft owner for management services related to maintenance and support of the owner’s aircraft or flights on the owner’s aircraft. 

Applicable services include support activities related to the aircraft itself, such as its storage, maintenance, and fueling, and those related to its operation, such as the hiring and training of pilots and crew, as well as administrative services such as scheduling, flight planning, weather forecasting, obtaining insurance, and establishing and complying with safety standards. Aircraft management services also include such other services as are necessary to support flights operated by an aircraft owner.”

Q: How does this new tax reform affect the aviation industry and purchase of private aircraft?

A: The acquisition of an aircraft for business could be depreciated at 100% of the cost within the first year of ownership. This is an immediate, important change from previous tax guidelines. For example, based on a marginal tax rate of 40% and a jet acquisition price of $5,000,000 there is a potential income tax savings of $2,000,000.

Q: Is there a difference between the acquisition of a pre-owned aircraft vs. a factory-new aircraft?

A: No, the tax reform applies to both new and pre-owned aircraft.

Q: Is there a cap or phase-out to deduction price point?

A: No, there is no purchase price point at which the tax advantage caps out. The tax benefits would apply to a seasoned jet owner upgrading to a Citation Longitude, as well as a first-time aircraft owner looking to purchase a single-engine turboprop aircraft.

Q: I would like to purchase an aircraft soon, should I wait?

A: Now is the perfect time to buy an aircraft as the new incentives are very advantageous. Although the new Tax Cut eliminates the like-kind exchange (1031 exchange) for aircraft transactions (in 2018 the Act will only allow the 1031 like-kind exchange for real property) and taxpayers will no longer be able to defer taxable gain on their aircraft when they wish to upgrade, the new tax cuts applicable to buying a new plane are immediate and significant.

Q: What if I wish to deduct entertainment expenses for my business aircraft?

A: Previously, deductions of entertainment expenses are only allowed if they directly relate to the taxpayer’s conduct of business. Starting in 2018, the new tax cut does not allow the deduction of entertainment expenses, regardless if it associated with the owner’s/taxpayer’s business.

July 20, 2017 – Latitude 33 Aviation was recently presented with the Van Nuys Airport Friendly Flyer Award for achieving outstanding compliance with the airport’s Fly Friendly program for calendar year 2016. Although the program has stringent requirements and only a small number of private jet operators flying out of the Los Angeles area airport qualify, this is the third consecutive year Latitude 33 Aviation has received the award.

The voluntary Van Nuys Airport Fly Friendly/Quiet Departure Program for jet aircraft was established in 1994 to address the community’s concerns regarding jet aircraft noise in neighboring areas. The annual Friendly Flyer Award program was established in 2012 to acknowledge those operators who complied with all noise abatement policies and procedures and achieved the highest level of success in adhering to the Fly Friendly/Quiet Departure Program.

The award winners were determined using the following criteria:

1. At least 60 southbound jet departures during 2017
2. 99% or greater compliance with the no early turn and the Quiet Jet Departure Programs
3. No violations of noise ordinances:
