Nicknamed “The Valley Isle” because central Maui rests between two mountains, this lush paradise boasts everything you are seeking in a tropical getaway. The island has a reputation for its resorts and master-planned communities, along with bountiful sunshine and fragrant breezes. Weather throughout the year remains nice with seasonable changes expected, but usually not varying more than 20 or so degrees between summer and winter. What to Do in Maui

Sea & Sky

A great way to start off a trip to Maui is with a helicopter tour. Dancing through clouds and skimming the tops of waterfalls provides a unique thrill and is also a perfect opportunity to get a feel for the layout of the island, helping you plan your next adventure. While up on your private air-tour of the island, you will likely notice the changing colors of sand along Maui’s beaches; indeed, Maui is world-famous for its black, red, and white sand beaches, where simply swimming and sunbathing become elevated afternoon activities. Snorkeling and windsurfing are popular undertakings, and there are always plenty of professional surfers to enjoy watching from the beach if you are not yet an experienced surfer. For a truly wonderful snorkeling or diving experience, take a private boat to Molokini to explore the underwater world off of Maui’s southwestern coast. Molokini is a small, crescent-shaped island which has been deemed a Marine Life Conservation District and Bird Sanctuary, offering the very best viewing of over 250 species of tropical fish.

Hana & Haleakala National Park

For a change of pace, take a drive along the scenic highway to Hana, which is a legendary 52-mile coastal drive that you can make last all day, depending upon the number of photo ops you choose to stop for. The drive takes you through the epic eastern side of the island, with thundering waterfalls cascading through lush rainforest, roadside pineapple stands, and a few hair-pin turns atop seaside cliffs. Just beyond the charming town of Hana you will find the Haleakala National Park. Hike through verdant Bamboo forests, or view dynamic waterfalls from the best jungle trails on the island (make sure to always check with the national park service to ensure there aren’t any recent trail closures). The national park service can also help you get advanced reservations for viewing the most iconic sunrise on the planet, in Haleakala, at 3 km above sea level.

Whale-Watching

December through May is whale-watching season off of Hawaii’s glittering shorelines, with two-thirds of the entire North Pacific humpback whale population stopping in the warm waters to breed, calve, and nurse their young. While the whales can be seen from all of the islands, the Auau Channel between Maui, Molokai, and Lanai is the premier destination. Private boat tours are an unforgettable way to enjoy viewing the whales up close in their natural habitat.

Lahaina

Lahaina Town, in west Maui, is an old whaling town with historic appeal. Lahaina has evolved into a modern city with excellent nightlife, oceanfront dining, and shopping. Don’t forget to plan to attend a luau while in Lahaina, which is arguably Maui’s most quintessential vacation activity. The Royal Lahaina resort offers one of most popular and longest running luaus on the island, including staples of Hawaiian food culture, scenic views, memorable music, and thrilling performances.

Fine Dining

When visiting the islands, fresh seafood is plentiful, of course, and the favorite places to dine include Mama’s Fish House, Koiso Sushi Bar, and Nuka. Dotted all across Maui are truly fabulous spots to catch a sunrise breakfast, quick bite, or elegant oceanfront dinner against a backdrop of lingering twilight. Merriman’s has become a cultural institution on Maui and known for the sustainably grown fresh produce they use, much of which Chef Merriman grows himself. And don’t miss the Chef’s Table at the Mill House, located on the Maui Tropical Plantation, where you will find weekly interactive culinary experiences with the chef.

Wailea is Hawaii’s most exclusive and luxurious resort community, featuring stunning resorts from brands that are reliably dedicated to excellence:

Waldorf Astoria is the most famous place to play in pools on the island, where a river connects nine spectacular and unique swimming pools across the property.

Marriott is a family-friendly resort with panoramic oceanfront views and has recently been redesigned.

Four Seasons offers specially designed escapes for couples or families, plenty of activities, and oceanfront serenity.

Hotel Wailea is an adults-only oasis and a getaway which is routinely honored among the best in the world by Cond Nast and Travel + Leisure.

Along the North Shore of Maui, you will find Kapalua Resort, a 22,000-acre region home to signature events throughout the year, real estate offerings, and award-winning dining and shopping.

Among the luxury hotel offerings nestled in Kapalua Bay are Montage and The Ritz-Carlton. With white sand beaches, nature preserves, breathtaking hiking trails, championship golf, and magnificent dining, the Kapalua Resort community will enchant you.

The Kahului Airport (PHOG) – the airport which services Maui and is only 20-30 minutes from the favorite resort destinations of Lahaina and Wailea.
